The Data Centre Operations Director (f/m/d) is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, availability, safety, and customer service delivery across one or more mission-critical data centre facilities. This role oversees all aspects of critical facility operations, including electrical, mechanical, network support coordination, maintenance programs, operational governance, compliance, staffing, incident management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The Director ensures that all facilities operate to the highest standards of uptime, reliability, security, and efficiency while supporting customer SLAs and business growth objectives. The role requires deep expertise in mission-critical infrastructure environments, strong operational leadership, and experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams within a colocation or hyperscale data centre environment.

Your mission

Operational Leadership
  • Lead day-to-day operations of mission-critical data centre facilities. 
  • Ensure continuous availability and reliability of critical infrastructure systems including: 
    • UPS systems 
    • Generators 
    • Switchgear 
    • HVAC / cooling systems 
    • BMS / EPMS platforms 
    • Fire suppression systems 
  • Maintain operational readiness in accordance with SLAs, and internal operating procedures. 
  • Drive operational excellence programs focused on uptime, resiliency, efficiency, and risk reduction.
Team Management
  • Lead and develop Data Center Operations Managers, Facility Engineers, Shift Technicians, and support staff. 
  • Establish staffing models, succession planning, and training programs. 
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, procedural compliance, and continuous improvement. 
  • Conduct performance management, mentoring, and career development activities. 
Incident & Change Management
  • Own incident response processes for critical facility events. 
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation. 
  • Chair change management reviews for maintenance and operational activities. 
  • Ensure all maintenance and operational procedures follow change management, MOP, SOP, and EOP standards. 
Maintenance & Reliability
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. 
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts for critical infrastructure systems. 
  • Ensure maintenance activities are executed without customer impact. 
  • Monitor asset lifecycle management and capital replacement planning. 
Customer & Service Delivery
  • Act as senior operational point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders. 
  • Support audits, sales opportunities, operational reporting, and SLA management. 
  • Ensure operational support aligns with customer contractual obligations and service expectations. 
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with: 
    • ISO 27001 
    • ISO 22301 
    • SOC standards 
    • Health & Safety regulations 
    • Environmental and energy standards 
  • Lead operational audit preparedness and remediation efforts. 
  • Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery operational readiness. 
Financial & Strategic Management
  • Manage operational budgets, forecasting, and cost control initiatives. 
  • Support capacity planning and expansion projects. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning for operational scalability and efficiency improvements. 
  • Drive sustainability and energy optimization initiatives, including PUE improvement programs. 

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline. 
  • 10+ years of experience in mission-critical facilities or data centre operations. 
  • 5+ years in senior leadership or management roles within a colocation, hyperscale, or critical infrastructure environment. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of: 
    • Electrical distribution systems 
    • Mechanical cooling infrastructure 
    • Critical power systems 
    • Data centre operational standards 
  • Experience managing 24x7 operational teams. 
  • Demonstrated experience with incident management and operational governance frameworks. 
  • Strong understanding of MOP/SOP/EOP development and execution. 
  • Proven vendor and contractor management experience.
